Saturnine LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates Chef AI, including the Chef AI mobile application (available on iOS and Android) and the Chef AI website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using Chef AI, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Full name and display name

• Password (stored securely via hashing — we never store plaintext passwords)
• Profile photo (if provided)

If you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.

1.2 Profile & Dietary Information

To personalize your experience, you may optionally provide:

• Dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, keto, gluten-free)
• Food allergies (e.g., nuts, dairy, shellfish)
• Religious dietary requirements (e.g., halal, kosher)
• Social media links (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, website)

1.3 Recipe & Content Data

When you create, save, or interact with recipes, we collect:

• Recipe details (title, description, ingredients, steps, images)
• Nutritional information and macros (calories, protein, carbs, fat)
• Categories and tags you assign
• Recipe images you upload or generate via AI
• Cookbooks you create and organize

1.4 Social & Interaction Data

• Likes, ratings, comments, and bookmarks on recipes
• Users you follow and friend requests
• Recipes you share with other users

1.5 Nutrition Tracking Data

• Meal logs (food items, portions, macros)
• Nutrition goals you set (daily calorie and macro targets)
• Saved meals for quick logging

1.6 AI Interaction Data

When you use our AI features (recipe generation, chat assistant, recipe enrichment, ingredient substitutions, wine pairing), we process:

• Text prompts and messages you send to the AI
• Recipe data provided as context for AI processing
• AI-generated responses (recipes, suggestions, nutrition analysis)

We use a third-party AI service provider to power these features. Your prompts are sent to this provider's API for processing. We select providers that handle data in accordance with industry-standard privacy practices.

1.7 Payment Information

If you subscribe to Chef AI Pro, payment processing is handled entirely by a third-party payment processor. We do not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other sensitive payment information on our servers. We receive from the processor only:

• A customer ID and subscription ID
• Subscription status and plan type
• Billing cycle dates

1.8 Automatically Collected Information

When you use our Service, we may automatically collect:

• Device type, operating system, and browser information
• IP address and general location (country/region)
• Usage patterns (pages visited, features used, time spent)
• Error logs and performance data

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the Service — Create and manage your account, display recipes, enable social features, and process subscriptions.
• Personalize your experience — Recommend recipes based on dietary preferences, suggest content from users you follow, and tailor AI responses.
• Power AI features — Generate recipes, provide nutritional analysis, suggest ingredient substitutions, and respond to chat messages.
• Improve the Service — Analyze usage patterns, fix bugs, optimize performance, and develop new features.
• Communicate with you — Send account notifications, security alerts, and (with your consent) product updates.
• Ensure safety — Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:

• Public content — Recipes, comments, ratings, and profile information you choose to make public are visible to other users. Your avatar, display name, username, public recipes, likes, saves, and follower count are always visible to other users.
• Service providers — We use third-party service providers to operate Chef AI, including providers for cloud infrastructure and database hosting, payment processing, AI-powered features, and application hosting. These providers only access your data as necessary to perform their services and are contractually obligated to protect it.
• Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.
• Business transfers — In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it or where data has been included in aggregated, anonymized datasets.

Recipes you have shared publicly may remain visible if other users have bookmarked or interacted with them, but your personal information will be disassociated.

5. Your Rights & Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — Update or correct inaccurate information via your profile settings.
• Deletion — Delete your account and associated data at any time from your profile settings.

5.1 Managing Your Data in the App

• You can edit or delete your recipes, comments, and profile information at any time.
• You can set individual recipes as public or private.
• You can enable or disable followers and friend requests in your profile settings.
• Your avatar, display name, username, public recipes, likes, saves, and follower count are always visible to other users.
• You can manage your subscription through the customer portal accessible from your profile settings.
• You can delete your account at any time, which will remove your personal data within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Secure password hashing
• Row-level security policies on our database
• Secure authentication protocols

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

Chef AI is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. International Data Transfers

Our services are hosted in the United States. If you access Chef AI from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We take steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy regardless of where it is processed.

9. Platform-Specific Disclosures

9.1 Apple (iOS)

When you use Chef AI on iOS, Apple may collect certain usage and diagnostic data as described in Apple's privacy policy. Our use of your data is governed by this policy, not Apple's. Apple does not have access to the data you provide directly to Chef AI.

9.2 Google (Android)

When you use Chef AI on Android, Google may collect device and usage data as described in Google's privacy policy. Our collection and use of data within the app is governed by this policy. We comply with Google Play's data safety requirements.

10. Cookies & Local Storage

Our web application uses essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. We may use local storage to persist your preferences (such as theme settings and interaction state).

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we may also notify you via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
