Step 1
Toss cubed steak with oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and a generous amount of salt and pepper. Set aside.
Step 2
Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil or butter.
Step 3
Add onions, sugar, and salt. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft, golden, and jammy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 4
Increase heat to medium-high/high and add steak in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Sear for 2–3 minutes per side until deeply browned. Remove and set aside.
Step 5
Lower heat to medium and add butter to the same pan. Once melted, add garlic and shallot and cook for ~30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 6
Stir in lemon juice, Dijon mustard, parsley, chives, thyme, cayenne pepper, chili flakes, smoked paprika, and salt.
Step 7
Add the seared steak back to the pan and toss to coat in the butter sauce for 1–2 minutes.
Step 8
Serve over creamy mashed potatoes and enjoy!
